Fan Ya Feng is a renowned Christian and Chinese legal scholar who specializes in Chinese Constitutional law. Mr. Fan graduated in 1992 with a Bachelors degree from Anhui Normal University Faculty of Education. In 1995, he graduated from Bejing University Law School with a Master of Laws degree (International Constitutional Law). After his graduation, he taught at the Beijing Institute of Education. In 2003, he was awarded a doctorate from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Comparative Constitutional Law. Upon graduation, he became associate researcher in the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. In 2009, Dr. Fan was fired from his job due to his involvement in defending several activists from the Protestant house church. After that he served as Lead Researcher for the Holy Mountain Research Institute in Beijing. In 2010, Dr Fan was arrested for 9 days for his support of Liu Xiao Bo and since then has been kept under house arrest.

Dr Fan has done extensive research, especially around constitutional issues; political philosophy and social theory; and Confucianism and theology. He has written extensive academic literature and participated in academic events. In 2006, Dr Fan established the Chinese Christian Rights Defense Lawyers Association with 4 other lawyers. In 2005, he was elected person of the year by Yazhou Zhoukan. In 2009, he received the John Leland Religious Liberty Award. In 2012, he was awarded the “Defending Religious Freedom and Rule of Law with Courage Award” by China Aid Association.
