*Note: Wang Yu and Bao Longjun was taken away on 9 July, the large scale nation-wide interviews of the lawyers began on 10 July, and thus it is also known as the “710 Crackdown”.  

 

Weekly Update:

  • Lawyer Li Heping李和平律師:
    1. Lawyer Ma Lianshun went to Tianjin Public Security Bureau Hexi Branch Detention Centre to submit law firm letter, letter of authorization, copy of the lawyer’s license, and requested a reply from the public security organs to state whether Li is under any compulsory criminal measures, if so what kind, the investigation team involved in the case, the case facts, alleged offence and requested to meet with Li.     2. Lawyer Ma Lianshun went to Tianjin Public Security Bureau for Letters and Calls and check on the request made on 27 July about Li’s situation. The female police officer replied, “no such record!” (11.9.2015)
  • Lawyer Wang Quanzhang王全璋律師: Lawyer Li Zhongwei went to Tianjin Public Security Bureau for Letters and Calls to submit a petition. It was received by the Bureau and a reply will be given within 15 days.
  • Lawyer Xie Yuandong謝遠東律師:
    1. Lawyer Li Yongheng and the family of Xie were rejected the request for a meeting and to give Xie clothes at Tianjin Public Security Bureau Hexi Branch; their "Written opinions regarding the request for meeting" was received (11.9.2015)

  • Lawyer Li Chunfu李春富律師: Lawyer Gao Chengcai went to Tianjin Public Security Bureau Hexi Detention Centre and ask to meet with Li but was rejected. Officer Zhao said that they have already notified the family about his detention. Lawyer Gao asked to know the exact location of the residential surveillance, the officer said that he need to ask his superior in order to know.
  • Lawyer Sui Muqing隋牧青律師:
    1. Lawyer Ran Tong went to Guangzhou Public Security Bureau to ask about the situation of Sui, the Bureau redirected him to the Bureau for Letters and Calls.
    2. Lawyer Ran Tong went to the Guangzhou Bureau for Letters and Calls to submit a lawyer’s letter, requesting the Bureau to disclose the case facts and the letter was received by the Bureau.
  • Lawyer Liu Sixin劉四新律師:
    1. Lawyer Ge Wenxiu went to Tiajin Hexi Detention Centre to meet with Liu but was refused. The Bureau received the materials prepared by Liu to ask for a meeting with Liu and said a written reply will be given. Lawyer asked whether there was any extorting information through torture, officer Zhao said absolutely not. The Bureau claimed that they have already notified the family about the detention.
    2. Lawyer Wang Lei went to Tianjin Public Security Bureau Hexi Branch to submit written applications, an application requesting to meeting to Liu and a letter of legal opinion. His requests are: meeting with Liu, guarantee the right to communications, serve notice to Liu’s family about the compulsory criminal measures, ensure no exorting information by torture or prolonged interrogation, protect the rights to food and rest, allow lawyers to know the case facts, allow family to send him clothes and books. Officer Zhao received the letters and promised to convey the message to the Bureau. Lawyer Wang was informed that Liu is now under residential surveillance at a designated location. Lawyer Wang asked how to contact the task force responsible for the case, Zhao said it is impossible to contact and suggested lawyer Wang to inquire at the Hexi Branch. Zhao said that the investigation team is not responsible for the task force, they merely pass on messages.
    3. Lawyer Wang Lei went to the Bureau for Letters and Calls and ask to meet the officer in charge of the case, an officer (#290797) Mr. Li said the whole bureau doesn’t know who is in charge of the case. (17.9.2015)
  • Lawyer Chen Taihe陈泰和:
    1. The compulsory criminal measures of Chen was changed from criminal detention to residential surveillance at home on22 August 2015
    2. Lawyers were unable to know the case facts, communications with Chen need approval from the Bureau.
    3. Chen’s wife found out that Chen and his wife’s all bank accounts were frozen

    1. Lawyer Ren Quanniu went to the Tianjin Hexi Public Security Bureau to submit written applications, an application requesting to meeting to Zhao and a letter of legal opinion.
