Lin Qilei（蔺其磊）, Guo Haiyue（郭海跃）, Jiang Tianyong（江天勇）, Tang Jitian（唐吉田）, Liang Xiaojun（梁小君）, Tang Tianhao（唐天昊） and Zhang Keke （张科科）tried to visit the largest black jail in Sichuan on the morning of 13th May. They were beaten up severely by a number of unidentified persons and later detained for over twelve hours for ‘obstructing the business of the officials’ at Ying Jie Town Police Station.
Wang Cheng（王成）, Wen Haibo（温海波）, Li Heping（李和平） and Yang Huiwen（杨慧文） went to Sichuan Ziyang to rescue the lawyers a few hours later but were also detained. After being interrogated for more than twelve hours, Wang Cheng, Wen Haibo and Yang Huiwen were released at around 2a.m.today. Li Heping was summoned for ‘spreading false information’.
The eight lawyers were released at around 11:30 this morning. China Human Rights Lawyers Concern Group (CHRLCG) is appalled by the violent act. CHRLCG also demands Ziyang Police to investigate the incident and prosecute those who are held responsible.
On the morning of 13th May, seven lawyers travelled to Sichuan Ziyang city, Yanjiang district, to visit the Ziyang Legal Education Centre, also called Ziyang Er’E Hu Brainwashing Center. According to Jiang Tianyong, the centre detained more than 260 people in February 2013. Some people were detained up to 5 to 6 years. Some were even tortured to death.
When the seven lawyers were outside the Legal Education Centre, they were beaten up by a number of unidentified persons. All lawyers were beaten to the ground. Jiang Tianyong’s calf was injured by stones thrown at him. Tang Tianhao suffered the heaviest injuries, with blood all over his head. The lawyers were then brought to Ying Jie Town Police Station for ‘obstructing the business of the officials’.
Wen Haibo（温海波）, Wang Cheng（王成）, Yang Huiwen（杨慧文） and Li Heping（李和平） went to Ziyang after receiving the news of lawyers being beaten up. They were also detained at the Ying Jie Police Station.
After being interrogated for more than twelve hours, Liang Xiaojun（梁小君）, Jiang Tianyong（江天勇）, Guo Haiyue（郭海跃）, Lin Qilei （蔺其磊）, Tang Jitian （唐吉田）, Tang Tianhao（唐天昊）, Zhang Keke（张科科）, and Li Heping （李和平） were released at around 11:30a.m. today, they were said to be accompanied by people from Sichuan lawyers’ association.
This is one of the many incidents of Chinese lawyers being beat up by public officials since 2013. China Human Rights Lawyers Concern Group condemns the violent act and demands Ziyang Police to investigate the incident and prosecute those who are held responsible.
