Introduction
Lawyer Lan is a former member and Standing Committee member of CPPCC Chuanying District, Jilin City, Jilin Province. He was also the Chairman of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang in Chuanying District. He became a lawyer in 1997. Lan’s lawyer's license was threatened to be revoked in 2009 during the annual inspection and registration period, but was finally passed on June 9th.

Lan dealt with cases related to Falun Gong practitioners, safeguarding rights of AIDS patients, peasants’ land rights and unnatural deaths during Laogai (Reform through Labour). Together with two other lawyers, Lan established a Non-profit Organization, the "Association of Democratic Society", in December 2008. Its website promotes “Fairness, Reasonableness and Legitimacy, the Courage to Think, Speak and Act”. On the 20th Anniversary of the June 4th incident in 2009, Lan, some other human rights lawyers and activists were harassed by the local authorities. In the same year, he represented human rights lawyer Wang Yonghang, who was illegally detained after handling a Falun Gong case.
